Youth Investment Program

YIP


Learning doesn’t always happen in the classroom.The Youth Investment Program (YIP)encourages learning inside and outside the classroom by supporting youth through year-round work experience and academic enrichment. YIP helps youth obtain the skills they need to Graduate high school or earn their GED. YIP serves high school seniors, ages 16-21, in Estill and Powell Counties.

YIP helps youth prepare for college (visits and tours, applications, financial aid, ACT, supplies) and/or employment (resume, interviewing, dress for success, applications); as well as, community service; and leadership activities throughout the year.

In addition to providing year-round work experience and academic enrichment, participants receive other services such as developing work maturity skills, writing a resume, learning how to interview for a job, and counseling and support services.

Participants must be high school seniors at Estill County High School or Powell County High School, ready to graduate high school or obtain the GED during the school year, willing to meet for regular training, and interested in participating in the annual BGADD student summit and competition.

Youth receive cash incentives for completing program objectives including meeting training goals, graduating/earning the GED, and employment or enrollment in post-secondary education.
