There are three living phases in this program, - Safe off the Streets,
Motivational Tracks 1 & 2, and Transitional Housing.
Safe
off the Streets (SOS)
¨
Clients are
screened by a telephone interview.
¨
Screenings
can identify medical, physical, and mental health issues.
¨
Screenings
determine appropriateness.
¨
Clients must be
medically cleared to enter the program.
¨
Staff begin
obtaining background information on clients. This includes client history
of addiction, family social history of their experience with alcohol and/or
drugs, criminal justice system, etc.
¨
Clients
receive in depth orientation to the program.
¨
Clients are
introduced to the 12 step of Alcoholics Anonymous.
¨
Clients are
introduced to the classroom curriculum of Recovery Dynamics.
¨
The SOS component
last several days to several weeks depending on when a bed is available in
the Motivational Track and the client’s willingness to proceed in the
program.
¨
SOS is a 12-bed
unit.
Motivational Track 1 (MT1)
¨
MT1 is also a
12-bed unit.
¨
Clients begin to
trudge. Trudging shows a motivation to recovery. Clients commit to a new
way of life. Classes are held off-site and clients are required to “trudge”
(walk) to their destinations. Clients are asked to show at least the same
motivation for their recovery as they did their addiction.
¨
Clients begin
attending AA/NA meetings in the community.
¨
Clients begin to
face the first step in AA, which is to admit they are powerless over alcohol
and/or drugs and that their life has become unmanageable.
¨
Client success is
based on individual commitment to recovery. Through actions and activities
clients must show a commitment to working the program.
Motivational Track 2 (MT2)
¨
Clients gain
incentives for showing a willingness to invest in change.
¨
Clients now live
in a two bedroom apartment with a roommate.
¨
If a client has
income, they are required to pay 30% for their housing. Most clients will
not have employment income. If any, income will come from disability.
However, most clients will not have any income at all.
¨
Clients are still
trudging.
Phase One
¨
Clients transition
from the MT2 apartment unit into a different two-bedroom apartment on the
premises. This is called transitional housing. It will take clients 2-3
months to arrive at Phase 1.
¨
On the premises,
clients now live in the community.
¨
Clients no longer
trudge.
¨
Clients are now
working on the 12 steps of Alcoholics Anonymous.
¨
Clients begin
attending Recovery Dynamics classes.
¨
Clients begin
working on homework assignments.
¨
Clients begin
working on assignments in the community. These assignments or “jobs”
include gardening, maintence, housekeeping, laundry, kitchen, security, etc.
Jobs are rotated every two weeks. Most of the work that goes on within the
facility is performed by the clients. This teaches clients to become
accountable and responsible for their daily living.
¨
Clients learn to
hold themselves accountable for their actions and the actions of their
sisters/or brothers through community living and community meetings.
Community meetings are where all issues and concerns within the house are
discussed and addressed. Issues are things the client brings up about
themselves. Concerns are things the client brings up about their sisters.
Nothing (no issue or concern) is insignificant.
Phase 2
¨
Clients begin
working full or part-time in the community.
¨
Clients continue
living in a two bedroom apartment on the premises.
¨
Clients can
petition to be a peer mentor. Peer mentors work to help other clients in
the program. Peer mentors are still in recovery, they are just at a higher
level of recovery.
¨
Clients continue
working on the 12 steps of Alcoholics Anonymous.
¨
Clients continue
attending Recovery Dynamics classes.
¨
Clients continue
working on homework assignments.
¨
Clients continue
working on assignments or “jobs” in the community.
¨
Clients continue
to attend community meetings.
